Q1. What or who inspired you to work in investing?

I was always struck by the idea of having financial independence regardless of my life stage. More than a decade in, I found a firm who also shares that long-term vision of improving lives through successful investing. This goal has helped me understand how to stay focused and truly take a long-term perspective particularly when markets gyrate.

Q2. What do you think the future looks like for women in investing? What would you like to see?

The future has great potential, but we have much work ahead of us. I believe in the power of getting behind a collective goal to have impact. This requires bringing others on a journey with you, including the opposing voices. In this regard, I’m reminded of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a role model of this approach. Her graceful and inclusive way enabled much progress on gender issues. I would love to see more of this leadership in our industry on intersectionality. When it comes to talent, we have no shortage in our industry. But making that talent visible and retaining it are areas where champions can be a gamechanger for a woman’s career.

Q3. What is your attitude to investment risk?

For me risk is about how an investor reconciles the notions of willingness and ability.Ability drives how much risk we take for which financial means and time horizons are important factors to have clarity on. Willingness on the other hand, tests whether we will hold our nerve in difficult markets. Setting clear objectives and revisiting them has helped me think rationally about risk.

Q4. If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I think it would have to be resilience. Resilience helps me to keep going and reinvent even when I’ve been knocked back in my career.Resilience enables me to be present in the workplace as a working mum.Resilience motivates me to speak up and understand my value despite looking different to the crowd.Resilience inspires me to invest in and empower upcoming talent.

Q5. Tell us your motto or if you don’t live by one, why not?

“The only constant is change.”This moto helps me to adapt, learn from others, be open-minded and see the glass half-full.
